monumental window for the museum at Eldridge Street, NY

The museum at Eldridge Street has commissioned artist Kiki Smith and architect Deborah Gans to create a new monumental east window for the 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue. The synagogue is located in New York City’s Lower East Side and is a national historic landmark.

Smih and Gans are working on a design that will include the Star of David against a field of blue stars.

The final window will be unveiled in spring of 2010.

‘A.M.L. Clamp Light’ by Andreas Martin-Löf

Swedish studio Andreas Martin-Löf Architects have designed a lamp with a brass clamp for attaching it to shelves.

Called ‘A.M.L. Clamp Light’, the product was designed to use components produced by the studio’s Swedish suppliers.

One piece of folded brass supports the bulb socket, guides a bright blue flex and attaches the whole lamp to a surface.

‘Holland by Night’ by David Grass

Dutch designer David Graas designed a lamp based on the light emissions from the Netherlands:

‘Lamp showing the light map of Holland. Where the light emission in Holland is high, the lamp shade is thinner and in places where the light emission is lower the lamp shade is thicker.

This results in a variety of light intensity in the lamp shade corresponding with the image you see when you would look at Holland from space during the night.

The lamp shade is produced with the Rapid Manufacturing technique in collaboration with TNO and De Hub.’
