‘Janus Chair’ is a prototype designed by a Los Angeles industrial designer, Jang Yoon. At first glance it looks like a futuristic stool, at second glance it’s more than a stool. With its crab-like shape, the ‘Janus Chair’ is able to transform from a stool into a chair with a flip of the back.
Jang uses the combination of sharp angles, high-gloss surfacing, and multi-faceted contours to physically represent this juxtaposition and force the user to understand the contradictory relationship between the two. At once, the pieces seem strong and fierce as well as delicate and alive.
A beautiful transformation concept which was exhibited during the ICFF International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York 2009.
