‘Lantern’ lamp by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

‘Designed by the French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the ‘Lantern’ lamp was originally designed as part of the Vitra Home collection.

‘Lantern’ has a sober but appealing shape. The compact, slightly bulbous lamp is somewhat reminiscent of a Chinese lantern. This association is underscored by its pleasantly warm, soft light.

The lamp consists of two identically shaped plastic bowls. A horizontal black plastic ring serves as an artistic element that emphasises the lamp’s symmetry. Two smaller black rings mark the lamp’s openings, while also serving a constructional purpose (suspension and holder of the light source).

The lamp’s appearance is largely determined by the colour of the injection-moulded bowls, which come in white, red and black. The white bowl is used for the lower half of the lamp.

‘Lantern’ is available as a suspension lamp, standing lamp and floor lamp. The suspension lamp comes in two models, consisting of either two or three vertically assembled elements and a neon light source. The base of the standing lamp, available in two heights, consists of a sober, matt black powder-coated steel frame with a round floor plate.’
