Math is easy, design is hard.
I’ve always loved these pieces of artwork but I’ve never known who created them. Thanks for identifying them for me. The fact that a company like DDB was creative enough to incorporate them into ads featuring Volkswagen vehicles is really fun. To me, the ad is telling me that with a VW 4Motion, I can get anywhere to do anything. Very nice.
This is a really amazing to see M.C. Esher’s work in this creative form. wauw!!
I was fortunate enough to see Escher’s work at my local art gallery. It is cool to see them on a computer or tv, but seeing them in person is a whole new experience. I could get lost in his work for hours.
I’m a fan of Escher’s work, but I’m not sure how well the ads work for Volkswagen. I feel like the look is a bit jumbled.
This may sound in really bad but….unless I’m wrong these ads are advertising a commercial vehicle? Escher is know for his geometric/polyhedra style and loved by mathematicians and scientists (my grandfather a physicist introduced me to Escher at an early age) – will this be lost on the target audience? In the UK the Ford Transit Van (best seller) is advertised by “Gets the job done” not “Notice how infinity is a constant throughout our adverts – now buy a van and get on with fixing my roof you lazy *&$£” Just saying….
My bad?
