The Tribute 21 Plate Challenge is part of Felissimo’s “cause-related merchandise.”
The Felissimo Tribute 21 Plate project began in 1996 with the desire to make the dreams of children around the world come true. The plates feature designs and messages by celebrities and influential people from all walks of life, carrying wishes and inspirations for future generations.
For each plate sold, a portion of the proceeds is allocated to the “Felissimo Plate Fund.” 50% of this fund is donated to UNESCO/Tribute 21 DREAM Centers and the other 50% is divided amongst the charities that have been selected by the individual participants of this project. So far, the Tribute 21 Plate series has contributed $450,000 to the UNESCO/Tribute 21 DREAM Center Fund.
From the Challenge Brief:
Create a graphic design for a Tribute 21 Plate that communicates a wish, inspiration or message for children and future generations about happiness that’s in harmony with our surroundings.
Happiness the comes from interacting with people, nature, society, present and future. We have the power and responsibility to create happiness not only for ourselves but for others and your environment. The Tribute 21 Plate Challenge invites you to express what the concept of “happiness in harmony with our surroundings” means to you.
Tribute 21 Plates are a charity plate collection produced by Japanese design and merchandising company Felissimo. Every year, Felissimo produces original plates that have been designed by artists and distinguished people from different fields. Each plate carries a symbol of hope for the children of the world. This year the organizers have decided to create an open call for submissions to members of the DESIGN 21 community.
The design must fit within the plate diameter of 21cm. Your design can bleed to the edges of the plate.
Most Popular Design from the winning entries shown above:
‘I think ‘Happy’ is not far from us. For me, sunny and high sky is a great present to make me happy. Also, colorful balloons, sweeties like chocolate, candy, and ice-cream, watching the vivid fruits and picking fresh one, there are so many things which give me a big smile. Therefore I did not think seriously because it was about ‘Happy’. I chose happy colors and painted as I enjoyed. My hands created ‘The Blooming Happiness’ rhythmically. If you look at my plate, ‘Happy’ is just in front of you and in your eyes.’
